WE DID IT!

WE DID IT!

May 29, 2023 As we prepare for our departure with the JOHN PAUL DEJORIA to the waters between Iceland and Greenland, we are reflecting on the incredible progress we have made over the last year. It was in June of 2022 that I was ousted from SSCS, and it was at the end of August 2022 that I received an email dismissing me from the Global SS Board. Our ships, our support list and assets were seized. The Brigitte Bardot…

May 28, 2023 OBSESSION AND GREED There was an ambitious young Swede,  With this obsession to exceed,  He reached so bloody far, He forgot who we are, Disgraced by betrayal and greed. A Drastic Situation Requires a Strong Reaction

A Drastic Situation Requires a Strong Reaction

May 27, 2023 Thank you to Secretary of the Interior. Thank you to all the people who messaged the Department of the Interior. Thank you, Secretary Deb Haaland, for revealing the ineffectiveness of the government of Mexico’s incompetent efforts to protect the endangered Vaquita. Despite SSCS’s defense of Mexico, the U.S. government understands the seriousness of the threat to the survival of the endangered Vaquita. The one language that all governments understand is money. Mexican fish products need to be…

Native American Sovereignty Was Once Considered a Possibility

Native American Sovereignty Was Once Considered a Possibility

May 27, 2023 In honor of Walrus and his love for Native American History, I am posting this perspective on history.  This is one of the reasons that Walrus and I joined the American Indian Movement Rebellion at Wounded Knee in 1973. Native American Sovereignty Was Once Considered a Possibility. There was a time when there could have been a North American Indian Nation. One of the things that has always bothered me is how history is manipulated, erased, and forgotten,…

Remembering The Walrus

Remembering The Walrus

May 27, 2023 David Garrick, aka Walrus, was the closest person I ever knew to a modern-day druid. He lived in the forest amongst giant trees and spent years defending trees, wolves, whales, bears and salmon. He lived harmoniously with the bears that occasional visited and always forgave them if they caused any damage to his camp and garden. He lived close to Dr. Paul Spong and the Orcalab and gave visitors a tour of the forest on Hansen Island….

The Wisest Man That I Ever Knew

The Wisest Man That I Ever Knew

David Garrick (1946-2023) The Walrus May 25, 2023 A half a century ago I met a man who remained a close friend for my entire life although, because he was unable to enter the US and I have been unable to enter Canada, I have not seen him for many years, although we have stayed in touch. David Garrick also known as Walrus Oakenbough, or the Walrus, passed away yesterday. He was 77. He was my oldest and dearest friend….

THE HEART-BREAKING STORY OF THE WHITE HOLLY

THE HEART-BREAKING STORY OF THE WHITE HOLLY

May 24, 2023 The scrapping of the White Holly was heart breaking. This ship had a colorful history going back to 1944. The ship was generously donated by Benoît Vulliet. Literally thousands of hours of volunteer labor went into refitting the ship in Florida, and I sent it to Cocos Island off the coast of Costa Rica to remove some 40 tons of marine debris. The ship had so much potential but, without any explantation, the ship was scrapped. Another…

May 23, 2023 Just putting this out there, but has anyone heard from any of these guys about why they did what they did? Since last summer I have sent them messages – No Response. Canned Brutality

Canned Brutality

“It’s undeniable: the science shows that industrial fishing of tropical tuna is a catastrophe for the oceans and the biodiversity they host.” The new report, Canned Brutality, tells of “the human tragedy associated with our reckless consumption of tuna.” “Numerous reports published over the years have denounced human trafficking, beatings, verbal abuse, debt bondage, and inhumane working conditions throughout the global tuna supply chain, from fishing boats to canning plants.”  The Canned Brutality report demonstrates the willful ignorance of States…
