Cruising the English Channel Looking for Some Good Trouble in the Age of Empty Promises and Stupendous Global Climate Inaction

Cruising the English Channel Looking for Some Good Trouble in the Age of Empty Promises and Stupendous Global Climate Inaction

December 2, 2023

It’s been a quiet birthday for me so far. We’ve been chasing the Dutch 99 meter Super Trawler Alida all day at 12 knots waiting for them to deploy their destructive net. They don’t seem to be looking for fish. The captain thinks we are intimidating him and his crew just by being here seeing things they don’t want us to see. They cruised southwest and now back southeast in French waters. The John Paul DeJoria of the Captain Paul Watson Foundation is accompanied by the smaller Sea Shepherd France vessel Walrus.

We are both operating as a partnership for Neptune’s Pirates.

The seas are nice and smooth today but it looks like the next few days may be stormy. We will continue to keep on the stern of this weapon of mass ecological destruction.

I am missing COP 21 in oil rich Dubai but there was not much need to attend. It will be the same old blustering blab fest like every year before. Politicians will be making promises they have no intention of keeping, NGO’s will pretend they are making a difference, corporations will be selling their green solutions and the fossil fuel companies will be dictating the narrative.

Meanwhile here off the European coast a fleet of eco-system destroying super trawlers are hauling in tens of thousands of tons of fish to be converted into fish meal for factory farms that spew out greenhouse gases and viruses, contaminating the sea with dead zones and stranding starving cetaceans on the beaches where “scientists” and politicians will say, “we don’t know why the whales, dolphins and seals are dying, gee it’s a mystery.”

Anyhow for all the good people at COP 28 sincerely trying to make a difference – all the best in your efforts, but I’m afraid the annual COP shows have been co-opted by the energy corporations for the benefit of the energy corporations.
