Of all of the betrayals that we have experienced over the last year, the absolute worst was Jeff Hansen, the Australian Director for Sea Shepherd Australia, engaging in a partnership with Austral Fisheries and the Japanese company Marua Daichiro.

I never ever imagined that Sea Shepherd, the movement that I created in 1977, would ever partner with a fishing company. And not just any fishing company, but a company that targets Antarctic Toothfish, an endangered species. And a company 50% owned by a Japanese fishing company that was involved in pirate whaling activities.

David Carter, the CEO of Austral Fisheries and Jeff Hansen are both saying that Austral Fisheries is a sustainable fishing company. There is no such thing. On top of that, Austral Fisheries is opposing the expansion of protected waters around MacQuarie Island and Sea Shepherd is not saying a word.

It’s hard to place who is the greater traitor. Peter Hammerstedt and Alex Cornelissen for suing Sea Shepherd France, Geert Vons for plagiarizing the Sea Shepherd logos or Jeff Hansen for selling out to a fishing corporation?
