Sea Shepherd Australia Needs to Do One Very Important Task
March 23, 2024
They need to denounce their association with the Austral Fisheries Company, a company 50% owned by the Japanese Maruha Daichiro Fishing company formally the Taiyo Fishing (and whaling) company.
Sea Shepherd Australia must announce that they no longer support so called “sustainable fishing.” Commercial fishing is not sustainable and Antarctic toothfish caught by Austral Fisheries is an endangered species.
Austral fisheries buys farm raised salmon from LeRoy Seafood, LeRoy Seafood buys fishmeal to feed their farm raised salmon from AkerBioMarine, the world’s largest krill company producing fish food.
This is why Sea Shepherd Australia did not intervene, harass or obstruct the krill fishing ships but instead just took pictures. What this does is make Austral Fisheries look like a good company because of their support and association with Sea Shepherd Australia and Sea Shepherd Global.
As they say, just follow the money.
If this is not true, it should be an easy thing to denounce Austral Fisheries and disassociate from them.
This is an incredible scandal that Sea Shepherd Australia addresses by deleting comments and deflecting criticism.
Why would anyone want to support a marine conservation organization that supports commercial fishing?
