ICELANDIC REPORT CONDEMNS ICELANDIC WHALING OPERATIONS

June 19, 2023 “The expert council on animal welfare has come to the conclusion that the fishing method used for hunting large whales does not comply with the provisions of Act no. 55/2013 on animal welfare.” NOT ONLY IS ICELANDIC WHALING A VIOLATION OF THE INTERNATIONAL WHALING COMMISSION’S GLOBAL MORATORIUM ON COMMERCIAL WHALING, IT IS ALSO IN VIOLATION OF ICELANDIC ANIMAL WELFARE LAWS. The professional council on animal welfare says that whaling does not comply with the law.  Hólmfríður Gísladóttir…

HARPOONS HAVE BEEN FITTED TO VESSELS HVALUR 8 AND 9: ICELAND WHALING TO START WITHIN DAYS.

June 18, 2023 Kristjan Loftsson’s whaling company, Hvalur hf., is getting ready to begin whaling as final preparations are being made to Iceland’s whaling fleet. The harpoons that have been recently fitted are produced by Kongsberg Gruppen, a Norwegian weapons manufacturer.  This modern-day whaling harpoon cannon (pictured) is based on the Bofors 40mm cannon used extensively by both the Allies and Axis forces in the Second World War. THE CAPTAIN”S CHAIR

THE CAPTAIN”S CHAIR

May 31, 2023 It’s been 10 years since I last sat in the Captain’s Chair: that was in 2013 on the STEVE IRWIN in the Southern Ocean. It’s good to be back, this time on the JOHN PAUL DEJORIA preparing to depart for the North Atlantic to defend endangered Fin whales in the waters between Iceland and Greenland. This is an incredible ship. Fast, strong, and long range. The wheelhouse is spectacular with a 360 degrees view.

WHAT IS IT LIKE?

WHAT IS IT LIKE?

May 19, 2023 What is it like at the age of 72 to have everything you have worked for, after 45 years, taken away by a hostile takeover by people you trusted and considered friends? What is it like to see your ships sold off and scrapped? What is it like to see the movement you created diminished and “rebranded” to be something much less than what it was, to adopt a new agenda that is contrary to the original…

Aquatic Murder Machines

Aquatic Murder Machines

May 14, 2023 A merciless, monstrous, murder machine, a ship built for the sole purpose of inflicting horrific, agonizing pain and death to beautiful, intelligent, socially complex, self-aware, sentient citizens of the Cetacean Nation.  This insidiously evil machine is unlawful under International Conservation Regulations. We have put seven of these monstrosities on the bottom of the sea. 1 in Portugal in 1980, 2 in Spain in 1980, 2 in Iceland in 1986, 1 in Norway in 1992, another in Norway…

24 Days Before Departure

24 Days Before Departure

May 7, 2023 Meet Kristján Loftsson, a modern-day Captain Ahab. It’s hard to believe that there are men living today who harbor an obsession with killing whales. Kristján was born in 1943. He first began whaling at the age of 13 as a scout on one of his father’s harpoon vessels. He became CEO of his father’s company Hvalur hf in 1974 after the death of his father. This one man is responsible for the deaths of more whales than…
