Kristján Loftsson, owner of Hvalur hf. – the last whaling operation in Iceland – is installing copper electric harpoon wires on his ships today. This comes as a response to a recent report condemning Hvalur hf. and its cruel practices last summer:
“The professional council reviewed Hvalur hf’s answers to MAST’s inspection report, but does not consider the company’s proposals for new fishing techniques to be realistic.”
“The use of electricity during euthanasia is not a way to ensure a safe and quick death.”

“Not only will these whales suffer lethal trauma and internal bleeding from explosive tipped harpoons, they will also be subjected to high voltage shocks before dying; if this is not the essence of cruelty, I don’t know what is.”— Captain Locky MacLean on board the M/Y John Paul Dejoria.
“I came to Iceland to demand that they arrest me in 1988 and they refused, I have not heard anything from them since. Our intentions are simple, to protect and defend whales from an illegal operation” -Captain Paul Watson.
