It is hard to believe that a government can be brought down because of just one man. It’s hard to believe that a government can be brought down over the issue of illegal whaling. And it is really hard to believe that the government of Iceland could be brought down by the Green Party of Iceland siding with the wealthiest man in Iceland, who happens to be obsessed with killing endangered whales.

Iceland was the only country on the planet killing endangered Fin whales and defying the International Whaling Commission in doing so.

Kristjan Loftsson (80 years old) is a modern-day Captain Ahab and proud of it.

Within hours of our arrival in Icelandic waters in June 2023, the Minister of Fisheries Svandis Svararsdottir declared a temporary ban on whaling until August 31st. She based it on a government study that demonstrated that the whales were being killed inhumanely.

Loftsson is using his influence with the Independence Party to overthrow the present coalition and it appears that he unbelievably has the support of the Green Party that has always been opposed to whaling.

If the Green Party supports the Independence Party, the government could fall and they will remove Svandis Svararsdottir and will give Loftsson the four year permit to continue killing whales that he is demanding.

If this happens I swear we will do what we will need to do to intervene against Loftsson’s unlawful operations.
